Fundamentals of Education

This course is designed to orient students to the theoretical and fundamental characteristics of education. It covers philosophical and sociological approaches, educational thoughts of prominent educationists, and recent trends in Nepal's educational development.
Unit I: Education as a Discipline 8 Hrs
Meaning, characteristics, definitions, and forms of education (Formal, Informal, Non-formal).
Unit II: Approaches to Education 5 Hrs
Open and distance learning, continuing education, and skill-based approaches.
Unit III: Philosophical Perspectives 14 Hrs
Idealism, Naturalism, Realism, and Pragmatism and their implications in the classroom.
Unit IV: Sociological Perspectives 8 Hrs
Socialization process, agencies of socialization, and social interaction patterns.
Unit V: Educational Thought 4 Hrs
Comparative study of Eastern and Western educational thoughts and implications.
Unit VI: Education in Nepal 9 Hrs
Trends from NNEPC 2011 to Post-SSRP, inclusive of special needs and technical education.
